Dear Mr. Cole,
I am very sorry I was unable to answer your letter before this. I've not been at all well. I had two major back operations ten years ago & I've suffered ever since. I'm now 79 & I'm feeling the results of the operations. I was pleased to hear from you again & I'll try to do my best to answer your questions; the only problem is I was away from my parents a lot due to the fact that I married a fellow in the forces & we were sent away all over the country in Canada. So I saw very little of my parents. I am the eldest of 11 children. My first husband was killed in the war of 1939 & we had 4 children. He was a Jamaican as I was too. I've been in Canada since 1946 & remarried in 1947. I've been trying to find out various things about my Dad, Stanley Harris, but I'm afraid I've not been able to find many answers to your questions. He was born in Kingston & went to school there. I don't know the date or place. I don't know the date or place of his conversion, but it was in Kingston. He met his wife Eunice on a train while they both were travelling from Pt. Antonio. She was thirteen & he was 21 years old. They did not see each other for many years. My mother Eunice was sent to Boston U.S.A. to school & Stanley H. went to Canada to work in 1907. He returned to Ja. a few years later & resumed a close friendship with my mother Eunice. She also had returned to Jamaica. So, they got married in Fairy Hill Pt. Antonio in June 1913. Stanley was working then with the United Fruit Co., & he worked there until after their second child was born in 1915. He then moved in 1916 to Kingston Ja. & worked for Ja. Fruit & Shipping Co. until 19323 as "secretary & chief accountant". His wish for many years was to be a preacher & he eventually got his wish. He was a devout Christian & he started meetings on our veranda for sometime until he met Bro. Karram, and he had meetings on his porch also. Finally Mr. Karram decided to give land for a church to be built on, & so Stanley H. became the pastor for many years before leaving for England where he only attended a few churches & preached at several of them. He returned to Canada in 1949 & worked with his son John who had a car business for a year, then he retired as he wasn't too well. He & my mother Eunice became members of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Toronto & Stanley was made a deacon. I'm afraid there isn't much more I can say. As you may know he died in 1964 March 9th & Eunice H. in 1968 Aug 8. So I'll close now Mr. Cole & get this off. Again I'm sorry I wasn't able to do this before now. It was good to hear from you,. All the best in what you are doing.
Very sincerely yours,
Marguerite McKechnie
P.S. I hope I've been able to be of some helping answering your questions. I've enclosed a few pictures.
